The Jagdschloß Grunewald (Grunewald Castle) is renovated but still not open for visitors

The most expensive and biggest part of the renovation was the installation of a new heating system in the 465 years old castle. The  change of the heating system was necessarry because the former one from the 1970s produced a bad climate in the building, which was not good for the painitings. The biggest collection of “Cranachs” (about 30 paintings) could have been damaged due to the big changes of temperature. The new heating system will now guarantee a stable climate.
With it´s age of 465 years the Jagdschloß Grunewald is not only the oldes castle in Berlin, it is also the oldest building.
As the building still has to settle and “calm down” after all the works, it will not be open for the public yet. The Opening will be in June 2009. The Cranach paintings will not be back in the castle befor 2011.
